Lithuanian Railways (LitRail) is the national, state-owned railway company of Lithuania. It operates most railway lines in the country:
Back in 2009-2010, LitRail was looking for the solution to manage its complete GSM-R network, the first in the entire Baltic region. The new GSM-R technology would be helpful for conductors, dispatchers, train engineers and station controllers in developing more reliable and secure communication between railway operators. The GSM-R network implementation would enable LitRail to comply with European Council railway standards, while making railway travel faster and safer.
The solution is based on NetBoss XT network management system. All of the elements in the GSM-R communication system, spanning approximately 88% of Lithuania's rail routes, will be managed by the NetBoss XT fault and resource management platform. The solution will provide a single integrated real-time view of the health and status of the network. Integrated agents development for Loop Telecom Loop-O FiboMux 9310, Sky Control 5500.824 devices and EMS Agent for Frequentis FDN system, on-site installation (including hardware setup), High Availability cluster configuration and commissioning were carried out by TECOM in cooperation with BELAM telekomunikacijos partner (BELAM is the main member of the consortium responsible for the LitRail GSM-R rollout).
The NetBoss XT implementation of GSM-R will accelerate the adoption of European Rail Traffic Management System standards in Lithuania to enhance interoperability across all railways in Europe.
Provides better diagnosis and correction of equipment problems. LitRail operators will now have real-time visibility and reporting of all the elements including ATCA based MSC, HLR, IN platforms, SGSN, GGSN, IP network, BTS, BSC, voicemail, SDH, Fixed Dispatchers System and Power Supply's allowing operators to convey critical information quickly and clearly.
Scalable in its architecture, the network allows to easily add or replace any equipment without influencing the performance of the whole system.
