Network Monitoring Systems

TECOM offers implementation of HP TeMIP, HP NNM, NetBoss (Harris Stratex) –based equipment monitoring systems for IP and telephone networks.

Network monitoring and management systems are centralized software environments that collect data on the state of network nodes and communication devices as well as on network traffic.

Monitoring and management systems perform the following functions:

Network configuration management;
Network trouble management;
Network productivity analysis;
Security management.

The HP OpenView Network Manager (NNM) system implemented by TECOM is a thorough software solution enabling companies to manage their networks in order to provide reliable network services.

HP NNM system is designated to ensure the around-the-clock network monitoring with real-time displaying the state of network elements on the operator’s screen.

HP NNM is a leader in network administration and it encompasses all aspects of management of modern sophisticated networks. HP NNM allows to monitor the network availability and serves as basis for comprehensive solution for network management.

HP NNM can be operated by users of any qualification. It represents visual information on the state of network and allows to quickly shift to detail event lists or visual network maps, which clearly show states of network devices and faults’ locations which helps timely detect and eliminate problems. The mode representing physical relations among network elements permits to quickly detect causes of connection failures.

HP NNM is very easy to install and use, flexible to optimize existing network resources and easily scalable along with development of corporate network. Embedded intellectual analysis tools help the IT staff to obtain comprehensive information on all network components and specificity of their interactions.

HP TeMIP (Telecommunications Management Information Platform) is telecommunications management software.

Scalable and distributed system TeMIP helps to monitor the state of managed objects, control and manage them in telecommunication, Internet, local and data transmission networks, as well as cell networks, intellectual applications and networks, microwave and basic DTNs, wire and corporate networks.

HP TeMIP provides a number of general telecommunication networks management functions:

Trouble management – management of network fault alarm notices and events, correlation between events and notices.
Data protection management – management of passwords, user profiles and registration of commands.
Network workload and performance quality management – providing reports on workload and performance quality.
Configuration management – maintaining database of network equipment and regional division of network into segments, command processor to interact with network elements, end-to-end retransmission and event registration

TECOM has created a HP TeMIP –based centre for on-line monitoring of network equipment in the inter-regional OJSC «Svyazinvest».

Since 1995 TECOM has been involved into designing, testing and integration of the Harris Stratex NetBoss-based automated network monitoring and maintenance system and heterogeneous telecommunication equipment management system.

NetBoss is a multipurpose telecommunication networks management system designed to monitor networks, detect failures and provide network maintenance. The managed network may consist of heterogeneous equipment from different providers.

NetBoss functions:

Continuous remote network monitoring through sensors which control the state and performance of network separate elements either directly or through sub-systems developed by different vendors to manage their non-standard devices.
Conversion of acquired information into a single format and its visual representation on operator’s screen
Management of network state through actuators - special devices which can change the state of network elements

NetBoss has more than 300 specialized software components - intellectual agents. They permit to manage the equipment of almost any known vendor and interface with major OSSs. Moreover, the system contains an integrated development environment and virtual programming language which help to quickly create new intellectual agents or enhance functions of existing ones.

The system also includes an option of graphical representation of various correlations and statistics. The graphical representation of network (including the state of separate elements) dramatically simplifies the monitoring process and allows to locate troubles, precisely and clearly configure separate elements or the whole network. To analyze the obtained data you can use the integrated expert system. Any data on network troubles can be inserted into the trouble-tracking system for analysis.

NetBoss saves time and effort required to analyze information supplied by different network elements, provides statistic analysis of that information and, thus, simplifies decision-making for efficient network management.

NetBoss has a flexible modular customizable structure, and thus can quickly respond to changing requirements including system enhancement through adding new applications.

NetBoss is built on open multi-user and multi-task architecture “client-server”. You can operate NetBoss either in a solo mode or use it as a distributed system, installed on several computers of different types . The system may include one “master” system and several subordinate systems reporting to it. Several interacting “masters” or single-range configuration are also possible. In each case all messages are synchronized in all NetBoss-systems which allows each network management station to work as a backup device if other NetBoss-systems fail.

With scalable hardware architecture of NetBoss you can choose capacity levels for your computers depending on the size and sophistication of the managed network. This functionality is acquired through the installation of the system to Sun Microsystems and Hewlett Packard computers. With the growth of your network you can update the previously purchased hardware without re-installing the system (memory upgrade, storage devices capacity enhancement, additional CPU installation).

All platforms use colour X terminals or consoles as primary user interface. Client applications are also developed for personal computers.

Besides telecommunications issues NetBoss can be used for monitoring of various processes and objects:

Physical environment;
Temperature and humidity;
Fire sensors;
Security systems;
Intrusion sensors;
CCTV cameras
Access control.
