The foundations of TECOM were laid in 1992 by Sergey V. Krysov and Eugene G. Schemelev, research officers of Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University. The ties with the academic community brought the future company under the wing of NSTU, where the recruitment process was launched, in close collaboration with the Chair of Circuit Theory and Telecommunications. The founders involved the brightest students in the activities of the company, who later received permanent employment in the company.

At the first stage the company mainly dealt with radio equipment supplies. However, rather soon the TECOM’s staff were able to use their scientific potential more productively, as the company established contacts with the Harris corporation and signed the first agreement on development of Farscan Network Management System. In the following years TECOM has been active in offshore programming for Harris and other foreign customers.

TECOM’s successful operations in the US market led to establishment of the TecomGroup Company and registering of its trademark.

Another important landmark in TECOM’s history is 2005 when the company entered the system integration market. Having started with a small project for OJSC UralSvyazinform, a major telecommunications provider, the company managed to quickly find more clients and secured itself a niche in the market of system integration for the telecommunications industry.

At the same time, enhancing its partnership with Harris, TECOM has become the sole Russian distributor of Harris’ television equipment. The development of digital broadcasting technologies being in full swing, this line of business is viewed by the company’s board as one of the most promising.

Since the founding of the company, a small office in the university has grown into today’s 3-floor building supporting over 200 employees. The company maintains close collaboration with the Technical University and invests in the academic training centre for potential employees. The best students are invited to the company for internship, develop into highly-professional engineers and often return to the University as lecturers.
